Be a Master Builder

Are you Emmet Brickowski or Are you Lucy, (aka Wyldstyle)

If you've ever watched "The Lego Movie," you're probably familiar with the concept of Master Builders – those creative geniuses who can craft anything from a pile of Lego bricks without instructions. Coaching can feel like you are building without instructions while working with clients toward emerging goals and outcomes. The question is, how are you handling the project? Are you trying to navigate the coaching session brick by brick? How many bricks do you have? Where do you get them? What if you don’t have the right bricks? How do you know what you are building?

How do you become a Master Builder? You create your coaching blueprint and follow the instructions and then you practice a lot.

  1. Take a look at what’s in your coaching skill box. Have you added anything since you completed your coach training?

  2. Take a look at your confidence level: How do you measure your success as a coach?

  3. Take a look at your coaching team. Are you building solo or do you actively seek out opportunities to learn with and from other coaches?

  4. Partner with your client and ask for feedback or permission to record your coaching sessions. And then listen to the recordings. Are you using the same old bricks to build the same old coaching session with every client?

Mastery in coaching is all about the coaching mindset.

Master Builders in coaching are renowned for their prowess in thinking outside the box

  1. Invest in Learning: Never stop learning. Stay updated with the latest coaching methodologies, attend workshops, and seek out mentors who can guide you in your journey.

  2. Embrace Complexity: Don't shy away from complex coaching scenarios. Embrace them as opportunities to expand your skills and gain valuable experience.

  3. Reflect and Adapt: Regularly reflect on your coaching practice. What's working, and what could be improved? Be open to adapting and refining your approach.

  4. Create Transformation: Aim to create coaching experiences that go beyond the surface. Help your clients achieve lasting, meaningful change in their lives.

  5. Lead Ethically: Uphold the highest ethical standards in your coaching practice. Your ethics should be unwavering, setting an example for others in the field.
